Wins for Klaebo and Falla at Otepää
Individual sprints in classic technique were held today at FIS Cross-Country World Cup stage in Otepää, Estonia. The fastest men were Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo from Norway (3:20.05), Alexander Bolshunov from Russia (+1.51) and Paal Golberg from Norway (+2.53). Among ladies the quickest were Maiken Caspersen Falla from Norway (3:05.16), Natalia Nepryaeva from Russia (+1.40) and Maja Dahlqvist from Sweden (+5.78).
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo seemed unstoppable today and went from win to win to the final. In final he got away from the group on last climb and took the win comfortably. „I like the course very much. It was two years ago at Otepää where I got my first World Cup win at it feels good to be back!“
The fastest woman Maiken Caspersen Falla said the course is tricky with its hard turns and fast descents which demand great concentration. “It has been a tough start to the season and I hope this win is a turning point and can boost my confidence as well.”
Tomorrow ladies will take on 10 km and men 15 km races in classical technique.
This is the 15th time Otepää is hosting the FIS World Cup. The year 2019 also marks 20 years since the first Cross-Country World Cup in Otepää that took place in 1999. It’s the biggest winter sport competition in Estonia that will be televised to tens of millions of people all over the world.
